They have two little girls named Aishwarya Rajinikanth and Soundarya Rajinikanth. His little girl Aishwarya Rajinikanth is hitched to on-screen character Dhanush, while Soundarya wedded industrialist Ashwin Ramkumar.

Rajinikanth made his introduction with the Tamil film Apoorva Raagangal in 1975. The film won three National Film Awards including the honor for the Best Tamil Feature.
